To prepare medical assistants who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.

医疗助理s are the only allied health professional specifically trained to work in ambulatory settings, such as physicians' offices, clinics and group practices.  These multi-skilled personnel can perform administrative and clinical procedures.

A 职业生涯 as a 医疗助理 Makes for a Healthy Future

The 医疗助理 program prepares graduates for entry-level careers in ambulatory health care settings such as medical offices and clinics, and provides the student with a background sufficient for growth and advancement in the medical assisting profession. 

Entry-level jobs include Certified 医疗助理, 无论是临床, administrative or both; Phlebotomist*; or Electrocardiograph Technician*. 

Medical management responsibilities include:

  • Computer applications
  • 病人接待
  • Schedule, coordinate and monitor appointments
  • Establish, organize and maintain patient medical records
  • Coding and processing insurance claims
  • Patient transactions, billing and bookkeeping
  • Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services

Medical clinical responsibilities include:

  • Measuring vital signs
  • Assisting with examinations
  • Sterilizing instruments
  • Assisting with minor office surgery
  • Preparing and administering medications as directed by a physician
  • Taking medical histories
  • Running electrocardiograms
  • Laboratory testing in urinalysis, hematology and microbiology
  • Explaining treatment procedures to a patient

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) are statements of what a student will be able to do when they have completed a program. They represent the knowledge and skills a program has determined are most important for students to gain from that program and include both the Success Skills (institutional outcomes) and 项目的结果. 毕业 rates are determined by the office of Institutional Research. To ensure appropriate time for data collection, this report will be run and posted annually in the last week of September for the previous academic year. It should be noted that annual graduation rates may change as students continue to graduate. The following criteria will be utilized for the calculation of graduation rates:

  • Overall Program Completion Rate is defined as a percentage of the ratio: 

    All graduates of the program
    _________________________________________________________________
    All students with the program in their history of programs of study

  • For the purposes of reporting, the program completion rates are aggregated by academic year of entry.
  • A student is considered to have completed or graduated from a program or certificate by virtue of having been awarded the degree or certificate.
  • A student is considered to be undertaking activity in a program of study for the duration of time that they are in an active status in a program or certificate. This is defined by having a Program of Study with a status of ‘A’ during the duration of time they are taking coursework.  Should a student move in and out of active status in a program of study while continuing to take coursework, we only take into account the student’s activity while the program has an active status for that particular program of study.

Accreditation Affiliation

The job market for Medical Assisting is excellent. 100% reflects the percentage of graduates who chose to seek employment in their field for the 2022 cohort.

Graduates of the Medical Assisting Program at Hocking College showed a 100% graduate satisfaction rate over the past five years. Employers who have employed Hocking College 医疗助理 graduates showed a 100% satisfaction rate over the past five years.

The 医疗助理 program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education 项目 (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB). 农学院毕业生.00%EP-accredited 医疗助理 programs are eligible to sit for the National Certified 医疗助理 CMA (AAMA) exam. The MAERB Annual report for 2023 indicated a 100% passage rate for the 2022 graduates, and a 100% passage rate for the 2021 graduates. The percentage far exceeds the 60.00% threshold set forth by MAERB.

The Medical Assisting Program at Hocking College has an average retention rate of 66.67% for the 2022 cohort, 66.67% for the 2021 cohort, and 44.44% for the 2020 admission cohort. There are a number of support services available to students so that they can successfully complete the program.
